To me, 'obsession' is a necessary word.
I always need to be obsessed with something—whether it's the clouds, the traces left behind by nature's whims, or the unconscious marks left by people. No matter how incredibly ordinary it may seem. You, too, need to be obsessed with something in your life. Otherwise, you're no different from a walking zombie.
Obsession fuels passion. And passion is the process of taking one step further in your journey of learning.
Sure, it could be seen as the psychotic delusion of a psychopath stalking someone out of spite, but it can also be viewed as a stepping stone to take another leap forward. It’s all part of the process. It's simply a matter of how you interpret it. You can see obsession in a negative light, or a positive one. That is entirely up to you.
As with everything in life, it all comes down to you.
In the world we live in today, endlessly scrolling through social media and YouTube, we are blindly captivated by—and obsessed with—money-making algorithms. Whatever you watch, whatever you fixate on, it just becomes another dollar in the pockets of those who managed to grab your attention. You are not the one in control. Your obsession literally becomes money for them.
So, why not try obsessing over yourself?
Take a careful look at your own existence. Try obsessing over yourself with the same intensity you use to scroll through your phone. Are you satisfied with who you are? Probably not. Because you’ve never really thought deeply about yourself, and you've certainly never been obsessed with yourself. The target of your obsession has always been 'other people.'
Being obsessed with yourself and being called a selfish egoist are two completely different things. You don't need to make a huge fuss about your obsession. Do that, and people will just push you away. It’s really about a quiet sense of control—being completely true to yourself without making a scene.
Right now, I'm obsessed with ramen!
