It is a truly baffling word. What is love?
Everyone knows that there are many different kinds of love.
But what on earth is love?
Having lived for 66 years, I still do not know the answer because I have never felt it even once. Of course, when I was 18, I chased after a woman 12 years my senior and thought that was love, but it was just a youthful obsession, not love.
I now have a wife whom I say I love, but is that truly love? How would I know when I have never felt it before? My love for my wife stems from what Koreans call \"Jeong\" [a uniquely Korean concept of deep emotional bond, affection, and loyalty cultivated over time]. We have been through thick and thin together. My wife knows me well, and the same goes for me.
But that does not answer the question of what love is.
I have come to the conclusion that love is an illusion. Love is like a veil cast over the eyes, blurring reality to make it appear more beautiful than it actually is, and dulling our senses with ambiguous emotions. The reason love is an illusion is that it does not stay in one place; it moves. Furthermore, it does not linger. It changes.
There are people who spend their entire lives together as husband and wife. Did they stay together because they loved each other so much? They stayed together out of necessity, not love.
When you say you love something, it means it goes beyond merely liking it. \"I love pasta!\" This means you like pasta on an entirely different level. A level you know absolutely nothing about. There is simply no other word to describe that feeling toward pasta. However, it is a firm answer to something indefinable.
Someone invented the word 'love' to describe something indefinable, something humans can never truly reach! That word exists to confuse people into trying to achieve the unachievable.
If love existed in the sense we assume it does, there would be no wars in the world. We wouldn't kill anyone. But humans are not built that way. We love to hate!
So, my final conclusion on what love is, is that love cannot exist in our world.
It is merely an illusion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Love.
